When You are at a Crossroads
Sometimes we are at a place in life where we don’t know what to do or which way to go. We want to make effective decisions that will turn out for the best.
Here’s an exercise that you can do in meditation to help you with any decisions, large or small that are coming up. Use this strategy when you don’t know what to do. This technique works best when you are ready to surrender the outcome to your higher power and when your conscious mind has thought about this and been unable to come up with a decision or solution.
Before You Start The Exercise
Think about a decision you want to make where you feel torn between 3 options. If you only have two options, add a third for the purpose of the exercise. Label the options 1, 2, and 3.
The Life Path Exercise
1. Imagine you are walking down a path in nature. Go into a deeply relaxed stated. Walk until you reach a crossroads where three new paths come together to meet the path you are walking on. Each of the paths represents one of the life choices that you are deciding between.
2. Find a tree at the juncture of the roads, where you can sit down to rest. Lean back against the tree and take some deep breaths.
3. Notice there are three empty bags next to you. They are labeled path #1, #2 and #3.
4. Now it’s time to let go. Close your eyes and invite your higher power to help you. You will give the instructions first and then follow through.
5. Ask your higher power to take one minute of clock time to explore each of the paths (one at a time) while you relax at the crossroads. Ask your deeper self to gather information about that path and that outcome or choice and bring the information back. Ask it to put the information in the bag that is labeled with the same number here as the crossroad. You will not be aware of the contents yet. You are to imagine staying here in nature and just relax.
6. Allow your inner being to explore each path each for one minute and put it’s findings in the bag of the same number. Do not open the bag. Explore path 1, then path 2, and then path 3.
7. When you are complete gather up the three bags. Now, very carefully look at and feel each bag. Start by feeling the weight or shake the bag and listen to it. Next open the first bag and look to see what is inside. Use your intuition to look, listen, feel and weigh the information. Then gather up the second bag and check out that outcome. Then gather the third bag and check out that outcome intuitively.
8. It may now be obvious which path is the best for you. Often comparing the three bags will give you the answer. Sometimes the bags are full of symbols, and you’ll have to discern what they mean to you.
9. An example: One time I did this exercise and one bag was full of broken glass. Yikes! The second bag had the sun in it, and the third bag had many symbols of nature and happiness. My answer ended up being a combination of the 2nd and 3rd bag.
9. When you are complete with the journey, imagine walking back up the paths to conscious awareness with the information with you.
