Hi everyone,
It is a gift to be intuitive and we each carry this gift. Some of us have greater sensitivity and abilities, just like some others are better artists, teachers, scientists, musicians, technicians and mechanics.
For those of us who are considered “psychically gifted”, there is sometimes a hidden stigma that comes with being psychic. The word psychic seems to bring up old pictures for some. There has been a prejudice in the world and judgment on those who “hear voices” and “see things in the inner realms”. While this can happen when someone has a psychotic break, this is the daily life of some individuals who are perfectly capable in the world. In many cultures, the sensitive ones are respected and raised to be the shamans.
I didn’t know until I was 22 years ago, that many others didn’t see into the inner realms. This vision was a constant for me since birth. I was raised Catholic and we didn’t talk about intuition. I learned later that my experiences were different than many others. When I began to speak about it, I experienced the fear and prejudice of some who felt threatened by my gifts. The label of being crazy was on the table.
So how do you balance these gifts and tools with being in the world? Grounding is key. Being present and in your body will allow you to be both professional, trustworthy as well as intuitive or psychic. Be discerning when sharing about these gifts. It takes courage to be visible in a world that has a prejudice toward these tools. I would love to see a pride style movement for sensitives and an honoring of those who carry these gifts. There are many of us. We now honor many types of people and encouraging diversity is a wonderful thing. This is a type of diversity that still needs to be honored.
If you struggle with feeling shamed or ostracized for this gift, you are not alone. Find balance. If you are developing this gift and the tools, know that many will accept you and some will need to be informed and better educated to the fact that it just means you have a talent. Using this talent with respect brings greater value to life. Respecting the boundaries of others is similar in this role as it is in the rest of life.
All my best,
Dawn
