The Dalai Lama’s Message to Me
25 years ago I went with a group of 8 friends, to see the Dalai Lama in L.A. It was in a huge auditorium and Richard Gere introduced him. I got so excited when I saw Richard Gere I nearly jumped out of my seat.
Then the Dalai Lama’s interpreter came out. He spoke in English and translated for his Holiness. After a few minutes the Dalai Lama asked if it was ok if he sat on the floor. We applauded.
He quickly popped into a lotus posture and said in English, “More comfortable”. The whole auditorium applauded again. He proceeded to speak for 2 hours and I heard him say the same thing over and over again.
After the event we when back to one of our homes to debrief what we had learned. I said, “Well that message is pretty obvious because he just said the same thing over and over for two hours. People looked at me confused and then at each other shaking their heads. They asked what I had heard. I heard him say:
“Make Inner Peace Reliable”. The rest had all heard something else, a variety of many things. I have leaned into that message now for 25 years. It was reliable before he told me. I now know it already is. Inner Peace is Reliable now. It always was.
